Zoetrope Blooms
2015
Role: Technical Director, Software Developer
Tools: Maya, Python, PyMEL
A collaboration with John Edmark to create an interactive visual design tool for the design of John’s Blooms sculpture series. Based on Fibonacci series mathematics, and printed in gypsum plaster on a Z-Corp printer.
Script Features:
Instances a piece of "source" geometry around a sphere creating Fibonacci spirals
Definable "neighbor" relationships to define node structure and number of spirals (example: {5, 8}, {13,21}).
Definable number of nodes.
Any animation on the “source” geometry (deformers, etc) will be rendered into a cached instance, so that the geometry will appear to animate through its sequence when the sphere is spinning under a strobe. Looping/cycled animation recommended.
Interactive feedback for changes to the source geometry and its animation.
Interactive altitude, azimuth, and node size controls
